Founded in 1959 by Hans Wiener as "Wiener GmbH & Co. KG", our company works since 45 years in the field of advanced electronics for industry and science. The first 20 years of busines were done as consulting and electronic research company with many different activities as development of analyzing equipment for chemical industries as well as evaluation for satellite signals.

Working closely with nuclear physics labs the development and production of NIM crates and electronics started, followed by CAMAC modules and crates. Further Wiener GmbH started to specialise in special, high quality (industrial and computer) power supplies for medium and high power application. Since then the company`s activities changed and their main efforts were put towards manufacturing. FASTBUS, VME and VXI  triggered the design and production of new crates and power supplies in the second half of the 90's. W-IE-NE-R Crates proofed to provide the highest possible power output combined with lowest noise and highest qualtiy. Featuring modular crate systems and incorporating a unique level of local and remote diagnostic and control WIENER crates became state of the art. It is automatically understood that most of the crate products are meeeting the requirements of the leading research centres like CERN, DESY and others. The LHC activities led to the development of new radiation hard and magnetic field tolerant power supplies and VME64x crates.

In the beginning of 1992 Manfred Plein and Jürgen became new owners and run the company as "W-IE-NE-R, Plein & Baus GmbH". Both are familiar with data acquisitions, power supplies and crates. The business was taken up in order to increase the activities in Particle Physics Experiments around the world. With this in mind a worldwide sales network was founded and collaborations were started in sales, production and development.

In 1997 W-IE-NE-R, Plein & Baus, Corp. was established as the sales and support center for the North American market. Since then our crates and power supplies became well known at major U.S. and Canadian laboratories as FNAL, SLAC, BNL, JLAB and TRIUMF.

In summer 2008 the W-IE-NE-R group merged into the Phoenix Mecano AG, a leading technology company in the enclosures and industrial components sectors.
